In Search of Sincerity

“Perhaps a great deed is belittled by an intention. And perhaps a small deed, by a sincere intention, is made great.”
- Ibn Al-Mubaarak (R.A.)

Here is another amazing khutbah by Ustadh Muhammad AlShareef. I particularly love this khutbah for two reasons. First, sincerity is a topic that I always benefit from learning about. Sincerity is something we can apply to every single intention and action in our lives. There are so many different aspects of sincerity and this khutbah does a wonderful job at outlining them. This brings me to my second reason of favoring this khutbah which is that I think it provides the reader with a wealth of information on sincerity. It very eloquently outlines the different aspects of it and makes it very easy for the reader to continue learning about a particular area. I hope that whoever reads this benefits from it insha’Allah…

Sabr or Shukr – the worry stops here

This is a khutbah from one of my favorite khateebs. When I heard this khutbah, I learned one of my favorite du’aas: Ya Rabbi ibni lee aaindaka baytan fee al-jannah (Oh Allah, Build for me a home next to You in jannah)

Surah Al-Fatiha

Here is the “conversation” so to speak between Allah (S.W.T) and His servant when the servant recites Surah Al-Fatiha during prayer. I came across this a few years ago and I thought it was really nice. There are so many different angles to study Surah Al-Fatiha; I’ve found that as a non-arabic speaker, memorizing this has helped me understand one aspect of the surah a bit better. Subhaan Allah, there are blessings in everything!

Du’aa for when you lose something

Here is the du’aa to help you find something that you’ve lost. It has been very helpful to me. It can be difficult to locate on the net so I’m posting it here.

Allahuma rabb al-daula, haadi al-daula
Oh Allah, Lord of what is lost, Guard of what is lost

Anta tahadi min al-daula
You Guide from the lost

Urdut auleya daulletti fa innaha min aatau’ika wa fadlak
Return to me what I lost because it is what you gave me and placed me with

The Beauty of The Prophet’s (saw) Words.

One thing that has always struck me about The Prophet (saw), is the eloquence with which he spoke to Allah (swt) – Masha’Allah. The following quote is is a prime example.

Qur’an Hadith

When the one who was devoted to the Qur’an enters Paradise he will be told: ‘recite and ascend’, and he will recite and ascend a degree against every verse till he recites the last thing of it he has.

Ahmad and Ibn Majah transmitted it from Abu Sa’id, for whom Allah’s (swt) good pleasure is prayed

How Does One Attain Sincerity

There are certain things we do and certain things that we feel that are personal to us. No one – even our closet friends and family, won’t appreciate what they really mean to us deep down. But Allah (swt) knows. He knows the exact extent of our efforts, he knows the full depths of our feelings. Only Allah (swt) will ever really know what goes on deep down inside us – He (swt) knows it even better than we do ourself.

Courage! Bravery! Determination! Seadfastness! Patience! Hope! Certainty! Dignity in the face of adversity….

Ten causes that result in Allah’s love for His slave and the slave’s love for his Lord – By Imam ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

1. Reciting the Qur’aan while pondering over its meanings and what is meant by it. 2. Getting closer to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after completing obligatory deeds. This is as is stated in a Hadeeth Qudsi: “My slave continues getting closer to Me by performing voluntary deeds until I love him.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree] 3. Continual remembrance of Allah under all circumstances, with one’s tongue, heart and actions. The extent of one’s love of Allah is determined by this. 4. Giving precedence to what He loves over what you love when you are overtaken by your desires. 5. The heart being avid of Allah’s Names, and Attributes and the heart roaming in that garden of knowledge. 6. observing Allah’s kindness, goodness and bounties, both hidden and open. 7. And this is the most wonderful, the heart being soft, subdued and meek before Allah. 8. Being alone with Allah during the time when the Lord descends during the last portion of the night while reading His Book and ending that by asking for forgiveness and repenting. 9. Sitting with the beloved and sincere, benefiting from the most fruitful of their speech. And not to speak unless speaking is more beneficial and you know that it will improve your state and be beneficial to others. 10. Remaining away from every cause that comes between the heart and Allah. These ten causes take the lovers to the station of true love and bring them to their Beloved.
