Du’as for when your sick

3 August 2006 at 9:25 pm 92 comments

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem.

I can’t believe how difficult it is to find a du’aa for a sick person to say. Everything I found had to do with visiting the ill or for someone else to say but there’s almost nothing about being sick yourself. Anyway, I found these hadeeths that I thought may be of interest to you insha’Allah :) The second one has a du’aa in it… I think it’s okay for you to say it for yourself iA.

PS – Remember to make lots of du’aa..

Dua of a sick person is readily accepted

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) has said, ‘When you visit a sick person, then tell him to make dua for you, because his duas are (accepted readily) like the duas of the Angels.’ (Ibn Maajah)

Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) has also said, ‘The dua of a sick person is not rejected until he recovers from his sickness.’ (Ibn Abiddunyaa)

—————————————————————————–

Volume 7, Book 71, Number 638
Narrated ‘Abdul ‘Aziz:
Thabit and I went to Anas bin Malik. Thabit said, “O Abu Hamza! I am sick.” On that Anas said, “Shall I treat you with the Ruqya of Allah’s Apostle?” Thabit said, “Yes,” Anas recited, “O Allah! The Lord of the people, the Remover of trouble! (Please) cure (Heal) (this patient), for You are the Healer. None brings about healing but You; a healing that will leave behind no ailment.”

—————————————————————————–

Hadrat Aa’isha (Radiyallaahu anha) relates that whenever Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) would become ill, he would recite the Mu’awwizaat (Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Naas) and then blow his breath over himself and rub his hands over his (auspicious) body. (Bukhaari and Muslim) She also says that when anyone in his family was sick, he would recite the Mu’awwizaat and blow onto the sick person’s body. (Sahih Muslim)

I found the following dua one can say for oneself:

Hadrat Usmaan bin abil-Aas(R.A.) says that he once complained about pain in his body to Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam). Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) instructed him: Place your hand on the area of the pain and recite:
Bismillah thrice and say (the following) seven times:
A’oozu bi’izza tillaahi wa qudratihi min sharri maa ajidu wa uhaaziru
I seek protection in the great might of Allah and His power against the evil I am experiencing
    and dread. (Sahih Muslim)

Usmaan(R.A.)thereafter says, ‘I did this and Allah removed my pain.’

“Here are few of the supplications you can use for purpose of healing as mentioned in the Sunnah:

    1) Allahumma rabba al-nnas adhhibi al-ba’sa ishfi anta al-sshafi la shifa’a illa shifa’ula shifa’an la yughadiru saqaman (O Allah, O Lord of Mankind, remove the affliction and send down cure and healing, for no one can cure but You; so cure in such a way that no trace of illness is left).

    2) As’alu Allaha al-azem rabba al-‘arshi al-azem an yashfiyane (I beseech Allah, the Great, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to heal me).

    3) A’udhu bi izzati Allahi wa qudratihi mimma ajidu wa uhadhiru (I seek refuge and protection in the august might and power of Allah from the pain and illness I am suffering from and I’m afraid of).

Furthermore, you may also repeat and meditate on some of the beautiful Names of Allah: i.e., ya rahamanu ya rahem; ya shafi, (O the most Merciful one, O the Healer and curer).”

Fortification of the Muslim from the Qur’an and Sunnah
    1. When the Prophet(saw) would enter upon a sick person ,he would say: “La ba’sa Tahuran in sha’a Allah”.never mind, may it(the sickness)be a purification, if ALLah wills).

    2. If you visit the sick recite this (“As alo Allah al-adheema rab-bal ‘arshil ‘adheem an yashfiyak)” 7x in sha’a Allah he will be cured. (i ask Allah the Supreme, Lord of the magnificent throne to cure you(sick person)).

3.Supplication of the sick who have renounced all hope of life: “Allahum-maghfir lee war-hamnee wa al-heqnee ber-rafeeq al-‘aalaa”.(‘O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me and unite me with the highest companions).

    4. Recite all the time: “ASTAGHFIRULLAH” whatever intenion your seeking. Allah provides.

Dear Brothers and sisters. I am a 23 year young lady who has only recently started to practice Islam. Over the last 10 years of my life i have committed sin day after day. I made music my religion and did everything that was against Islam. This Ramadan Allah filled my heart with the purity of Islam. during the last 10 day of Ramadan i was walking home and as i walked pass a house i saw a quran book on top of a bin. I looked at it and contemplated whether to pick it up or leave it. I thought to myself may be it belongs to someone or maybe someone is watching to see who takes it. I decided to leave and continued to walk a little, I then stopped as i felt my heart pulling me back. I couldn’t turn my back on this quran book which was just abandoned and out of all places on a bin. I walked back and picked it up and took it with me. during Ramadan i was only just getting into Islam. I did not know much about it, only that it was a religion i was born into. I started to do some research on my religion and the lives of our prophets peace be with them. It was only until i took the quran book home that i had realized the power of Allah’s miracle. It was more then just a coincidence that i found this quran book. The start of Ramadan Allah blessed me with giving pure love for Islam something that i had never had in my life. During the last 10 days Allah sent down a Quran book to help guide me as i was still new to understanding islam and still needed directions. The Love of Allah is great and no matter how much of a bad person you are or how long you had turned you back on him he would never do the same to you.

ALLAH IS GREAT, ISLAM IS MY DEEN AND FOREVER WILL I BE A SLAVE OF ALLAH.

May i also kindly ask if you could also pray for my friend Waqas who has been suffering from a very serious illness which doctors have still not been able to fine out what the problem is. He is this second on life support and the doctors are deciding whether to turn of the machine or not. He is the one person i have in this who has always had hope and prayed for me to return to Allah. I feel that now that i have returned to the right path, he will also be returning to Allah.

Ya Allah please have mercy on him. Ameen

Please brothers and sister make dua for my friend.

    Thank you

(please forgive me if i have said anything to offend anyone or something which is incorrect in islam as i am still new to learning about islam and always willing to learn more through others)

Ten causes that result in Allah’s love for His slave and the slave’s love for his Lord – By Imam ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah

1. Reciting the Qur’aan while pondering over its meanings and what is meant by it. 2. Getting closer to Allah by performing voluntary deeds after completing obligatory deeds. This is as is stated in a Hadeeth Qudsi: “My slave continues getting closer to Me by performing voluntary deeds until I love him.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree] 3. Continual remembrance of Allah under all circumstances, with one’s tongue, heart and actions. The extent of one’s love of Allah is determined by this. 4. Giving precedence to what He loves over what you love when you are overtaken by your desires. 5. The heart being avid of Allah’s Names, and Attributes and the heart roaming in that garden of knowledge. 6. observing Allah’s kindness, goodness and bounties, both hidden and open. 7. And this is the most wonderful, the heart being soft, subdued and meek before Allah. 8. Being alone with Allah during the time when the Lord descends during the last portion of the night while reading His Book and ending that by asking for forgiveness and repenting. 9. Sitting with the beloved and sincere, benefiting from the most fruitful of their speech. And not to speak unless speaking is more beneficial and you know that it will improve your state and be beneficial to others. 10. Remaining away from every cause that comes between the heart and Allah. These ten causes take the lovers to the station of true love and bring them to their Beloved.
